So at the behest of most of the internet, I will be avoiding Roaming Profiles in favor of Folder Redirection.
Currently all users in my organization have an XP workstation, as well as a couple Windows Server 2003/2008 systems they RDP into.
I would like to set up folder redirection for all users so I no longer have to worry about imaging a machine and someone losing their prized bookmarks or shortcuts.
The issue I am working on is that I would like to move to Windows 7 soon, which means there could be a time when the user's redirected Application Settings/AppData folder would need to server XP as well as 7 machine, which may cause issues for some applications. Not to mention the applications on the Servers which would read from this redirected folder as well.
So, to try and resolve this, I am considering enabling the Loopback GPO on all servers, as well as Win7 machines, and setting their redirected folders to a different location. In the end, the setup would look something like this:
Windows Server User folders ->
\server\share\Server2008\%username%\AppData
\server\share\Server2003\%username%\AppData
\server\share\Win7\%username%\AppData
\server\share\XP\%username%\AppData
Is there an easier way to handle this issue?
TL;DR: Users are on XP now, I want to redirect folders and migrate to Win7 without having AppData issues.
