Hey /r/sysadmin, do you find yourself to be a slow adopter of new technology in your personal life?

After watching this post, I realized something I thought for a long time working in IT: fuck that. Years ago, it was the idea of having to read work email on a blackberry. Now it's tablets, smartphones, etc. It took me years to adopt a smartphone, and even then I'm fairly certain I could easily live without it.

I've always found that people outside IT seem to have more of a veracious appetite for the new and pretty than those that work in IT. Sure, some like to play with nightly builds of firefox/linux distros at home, but I rarely find them avid to get rid of things that are reliable quickly (me included). For example, I'm not jumping at the opportunity to VPN into work from a tablet. I figure if i need to do it I'll use a my notebook/PC. The only use my iPad (a gift from work) has gotten is a fancy book reader.

For those working in IT, how do you feel about technology in general outside of work? Do you feel less avid about technology in a non-work sense?
