I have been wondering what makes someone a great sysadmin? I am a sysadmin and I continually get praise from my peers and from people that have worked with me. I think I'm competant at what I do but what separates competant from great?
The sticky point is the things which I propose or implement seem like common sense to me. How can engaging one's common sense make them great?
So, /r/sysadmins, what makes someone a great sysadmin? Is it presenting at USENIX or LISA? Using mdadm to save terabytes of data?
