Your session ID for this incident is (removed). Time Details 12/19/2011 02:59:02PM URL Shown: (Removed)

12/19/2011 02:59:12PM Session Started with Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690)

12/19/2011 02:59:20PM Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690): "Thank you for contacting Dell basic hardware technical support (name removed)! My name is Sergey. How may I help you today?"

12/19/2011 03:00:24PM (Name Removed): "I am contacting you in regards to a Dell PowerEdge R710 with a service tag of (Tag removed). Dell OpenManage is showing a physical drive failure and I am needing a replacement drive per our existing warranty."

12/19/2011 03:02:10PM Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690): "Before we get going, I would like to verify the information you entered into the chat form. You entered service tag (Tag removed). You provided a contact phone number of: (Number removed). When the chat window is closed you will automatically receive a transcript of our session at: (email removed). Is all of this information correct?

12/19/2011 03:02:33PM (Name Removed): "Actually, the phone number should be (Number removed)"

12/19/2011 03:02:39PM (Name Removed): "Everything else is correct."

12/19/2011 03:05:15PM Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690): "Alright. There was a new firmware released for these drives that help resolve a lot of issues. You may try to reseat the drive and re-assign it as a hot spare to kick in the rebuild. But if the drive failed indeed than you it's not under warranty anymore." In 11th generation and newer servers SATA drives are not covered for the full term of the system warranty. Instead, they are covered for only one year from the time of purchase unless a special hard drive warranty is selected at the time of purchase. This is because SATA hard drives are not intended for a server environment and will wear out too frequently. This is not considered to be true of SAS hard drives and they are covered for the full term of your hardware contract. Just so you have it for your records, this system was shipped on 08-24-10. You can find the full details of this and other warranty terms here: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/policy/en/policy?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~section=010

12/19/2011 03:06:45PM (Name Removed): "This is an abrupt change in warranty support. In the past Dell has always replaced hard drives that are covered under warranty. Server or not."

12/19/2011 03:07:19PM Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690): "That is correct."

12/19/2011 03:08:03PM Agent (TMPe_Sergey_176690): "At any point in time you can always upgrade the warranty to "Pro Support" or "4 hour service" and that would get the SATA drives back under system's warranty."

12/19/2011 03:09:10PM (Name Removed): "Dell is about to lose a lot of customers. Please pass this information along to your supervisor. We have used Dell for our IT Business for years. I can assure you that this will change."
