I'm looking into the possiblity to adding another company to our excahnge server and i'm just curious if it's possible/is my thought process correct. The server is Exchange 2010
Back Story summery:
- there are 2 companies with 2 forests.
- Company 1 is much bigger than company 2 and would like to add company 2 to it's exchange server Cause they could never afford it on their own.
What I've already done:
- There is already a established domain trust relationship
- DNS is already properly configured in both environments.
- exchange is already fully configured in company 1
I know there are such things as linked mailboxes, but i really don't want to create a user or contact in another forest EVERY single time i create a new user in company 2 (if i am understanding linked mailboxes correctly). i would like to use them on our exchange server just like i do with company 1. When i create a user it should exist only in company 2's domain
What i think i need to do:
- BACKUP!
- Run the schema setup in company 2
- create a additional send connector in exhcange
- configure auto discover in company 2's DNS including modifying or creating new SSL certificates for company 2
- Modify accepted domains to include company 2's domains
- Begin migration
When i do this, i will have a 'exchange expert' present, but he seems a little fuzzy on details himself and i would be interested in what everyone thinks before i end up in a situation where i have to restore from a backup.
My main concern is basically this question: do i need to run schemaprep or domain prep in company 2?
