A page for beginer sysadmins?

This subreddit seems to get quite a lot of requests for advice on what to do to get into the sysadmin business. so i thought it would be a good idea if we made a post we can point to when someone asks, as the responses seem to be repeated quite often. i made a first draft, and dropped it in an etherpad, so people can have a go at improving it (my draft is just the compiled advice from a search for "beginner" in /r/sysadmin)
