VM's and video-out

I have a new VMware platform that I will be setting up to take on some immediate and future loads...

One machine that I have running right now is just an old tower desktop that loops a promotional video to a tv via HDMI (adapted with cat5). I would like to get rid of this machine and run a tiny VM on our servers that would do the same thing... but how would I go about getting a VM to send video out? I imagine the first step is using an external video card...
