I feel like this has been asked many times before (sry) but I can't find a solid answer after furious amount of Googling. So anyway, our domain users (~100ish, all XP Pro) don’t have any admin rights. If it’s a one-off non-standard program install, we go over to their PC, and Run As as the local admin to install. However, some of these programs, mostly the older ones, will not open or function correctly unless it’s also run as the admin everytime. We don’t want to give them the local admin pass and make them type it in everytime (and of course they can install anything else they want with it). I know you can also run ProcessMonitor and see exactly what areas the program needs access to, and give permissions there, but that can become very time consuming.
I found this program that does exactly what I need: http://www.steelsonic.com/steelrunas.htm , giving an individual program local admin rights. However, it’s not free and is made by a widely unknown and untrusted publisher. Does anyone know of anything simple and free that can be trusted? Or is there a better solution?
