I currently work for a IT consulting firm. We manage about 20 small businesses in the area. I have a really good setup as I work from home almost always - with about one onsite trip a week.
Recently, our company seems to have taken a turn. The bosses have begun to focus more on services that provide us with the most money rather than provide our customers with the best service. Most notable is moving them all from their (already purchased and working) Exchange servers to "cloud" hosting which is slower, seemingly less reliable, and we get to charge a monthly fee for. Their focus is so great on this that they have hired a full-time salesman to start selling these extra services that our clients don't need. He sells the service, then I get the added work of setting it up and helping the complaining customer through all the problems associated.
I'm about at my limit now. Is this something that I should really expect from this field, or should I start looking for another job? I get paid decently (about 38k), considering I get to stay home most days, but I also am expected to help the clients within 30 minutes of them opening a support case at any time of day, and I have absolutely zero benefits.
